Often the majority of our energy and focus during pregnancy, especially during the 3rd trimester, is focused onbirthing. But what happens after baby comes home?
The journey continues……
Drawing on innate nurturing skills, current research on newborn neurological, developmental and psychological
needs, parents-to-be will explore the topics of:
~ family and couple adjustment
~ early parenting
~ getting to know your newborn: soothing baby & newborn care
~ breastfeeding – realistic expectations & behaviours, trouble shooting, and best start practices
~ the “4-trimester & the first 40 days – postnatal recovery, nutrition and care of birthing person and babe
~ getting sleep
~ and bonding as a family
Offered through a Parent-Centred lens, LWB is an engaging and interactive 6 hour workshop designed to guide the transition from couple to family with thought-provoking questions, activities, worksheets, and discussion.
Parents-to-be will leave feeling much more confident of what is to come once they “bring baby home” (or their midwives/doulas leave!!)
Facilitated by professional birth and postpartum doula, Karen McWilliam, B.A., IFS Level 1, CC-PMH, CC-
BRT, CC-PGL, CD(DONA), LE(CAPPA) has over 19 years birth and teaching experience, having attended
hundreds of births. She is a Birthing From Within Mentor, creator of The McWilliam Method Childbirth
Preparation classes, Lactation Educator and Sleep Educator. Karen is also trained as an IFS Level 1
Practitioner as well as a Canadian Certified Birth & Reproductive Trauma Practitioner, Perinatal Mental Health Practitioner and is certified in supporting Grief & Loss in the Perinatal Period.
